ABOUT THE ARTIST
Francisco Valverde (born 1972 in Cuernavaca, Mexico) is a contemporary painter celebrated for his vibrant, meticulously controlled abstractions composed of rhythmic, layered lines of color. Trained at La Esmeralda, Mexico City’s prestigious Escuela Nacional de Pintura, Escultura y Grabado, Valverde later completed an MFA at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. His early background in traditional painting evolved into a highly innovative technique that defines his signature style today.
Valverde is best known for his visually electric, labor-intensive works created by pulling pigmented resin through pastry bags, allowing the medium to be extruded in uniform lines across the canvas. This “painting without brushes” method results in hypnotic surfaces filled with movement, density, and an almost sculptural physicality. Though at first glance his works appear digital or mechanically produced, every line is applied by hand, embedding controlled gestures into a field of precision.
His compositions are often vertical bands or intersecting grids that explore color theory, vibration, luminosity, and optical rhythm. The resulting works reference everything from contemporary digital aesthetics to traditional weaving, Mexican craft heritage, and the lineage of geometric abstraction in Latin American art.
Valverde’s work has been exhibited extensively in Mexico, the United States, Europe, and Asia. He has been featured in Museo de Arte Contemporáneo de Morelense (MMAC), Museo de Arte Moderno (Mexico City), and multiple international contemporary art fairs. His paintings are held in private and corporate collections around the world, recognized for their technical mastery and immersive, chromatic intensity.
