ABOUT THE ARTIST

Clara Hallencreutz (born 1985 in Sweden) is a contemporary conceptual photographer known for her playful, meticulously staged installations that transform ordinary objects into bold, surreal, pop-inflected compositions. Living and working in Stockholm, Hallencreutz earned her Bachelor of Photography at Griffith University in Brisbane, Australia, where her distinctive visual language began to take shape through early exhibitions in Australia, Beijing, Jinan, the United States, and Stockholm.

Hallencreutz’s work bridges commercial photography and fine art with striking clarity. Her early background in commercial imagery is evident in the crisp, graphic precision of her photographs, yet the tone of her artistic practice is imaginative, humorous, and delightfully unexpected. She constructs small-scale sculptural installations, often arranging flowers into shimmering constellations, candy-colored lipsticks and rose petals forming abstracted symbols, pools of blooms shaped into luxury logos or lips, before photographing them with a refined sense of color and form.

Her compositions often play with perception: from afar, viewers may detect a familiar shape or brand silhouette, but up close, each image reveals a carefully orchestrated landscape of everyday items transformed through pop-art palettes, surrealist influence, and geometric abstraction. Hallencreutz prints her photographs on Crystal photo paper and mounts them between plexiglass and aluminum using silicone, a technique that enhances the glossy clarity and sculptural presence of her images.

Energetic, polished, and richly symbolic, Hallencreutz’s conceptual photography explores how color and form can shift meaning, spark curiosity, and reframe the world around us. She has stated, “I use color for its immense expressive capacity and to communicate new ideas, moods, connections, and contexts. Through transcendence and transformation of ‘the everyday object’, I aim to alter the viewer’s perception, to change and twist our understanding of common objects.”

Her works have appeared in international group exhibitions and are held in numerous private collections as well as luxury hotels and designer residences around the world. Widely admired for her ability to merge whimsy with technical mastery, she remains one of the few photographers featured in DTR Modern Galleries’ contemporary program.
