ABOUT THE ARTIST
For more than thirty years, Ted VanCleave has created bold, visually arresting artworks that span sculpture, abstract painting, and photography. Having lived and worked in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Miami before settling in St. Petersburg in 2017, VanCleave brings a distinctive, contemporary sensibility to his practice, one defined by texture, dimension, and a sleek, architectural approach to form. His works avoid simplicity in favor of depth and movement, offering viewers a fresh perspective from every angle.
VanCleave is best known for his Sinuosity, Drape, and Amoeba sculpture series, as well as his contemplative Serenity Collection. Each body of work explores different materials ranging from leather and glass to acrylic paint, yet all share a meditative sense of flow. With their sweeping folds, elegant curves, and sculptural presence, VanCleave’s pieces feel simultaneously fluid and precise, transforming any space with their energy and dynamic visual rhythm.
His artwork is held in private and public collections throughout the United States and abroad. Notably, the Frederick R. Weisman Art Foundation acquired his work for its permanent collection, and in 2018 VanCleave exhibited at the Dalí Museum in St. Petersburg. His sculptures also make a strong impact during Art Basel Miami Beach, appearing across major fairs including Art Miami, CONTEXT Art Miami, and Aqua Art Miami. He has been represented simultaneously at four international fairs by four leading galleries, a testament to the demand for his work, and his interviews with CNN and other media outlets have brought his art to a global audience.
VanCleave’s sculptures offer the rare combination of elegance, innovation, and tactile richness.
