Eden Kozokaro, professionally known as Kozo, is a contemporary artist and globally recognized tattoo innovator whose micro-realism style has reshaped both the fine-art and tattoo worlds. Born in 1990s Israel and now based in Brooklyn, New York, Kozo has become one of the most influential young artists of his generation. His practice bridges the precision of classical draftsmanship with the immediacy of pop culture, bringing together centuries-old artistic discipline and the visual language of today.
Kozo’s creative roots run deep. He began drawing, sculpting, and painting in childhood, studying art throughout his early schooling before discovering a new kind of canvas, human skin. At just seventeen, he picked up a tattoo machine for the first time and devoted himself to learning the craft independently. His earliest clients were friends volunteering in his bedroom studio, where he practiced with a machine ordered from eBay. Over the next seven years, he honed a style defined by extraordinary control, velvety gradients, and meticulous detail.
In 2020, Kozo moved to New York City to pursue tattooing professionally, joining the renowned Bang Bang Tattoo studio before opening his own space in Brooklyn. His micro-realism portraits and iconic pop-culture motifs quickly drew global attention, earning him a celebrity clientele that includes Justin Bieber, Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez, and members of Maroon 5. Today, Kozo is widely regarded as one of the most important names in contemporary tattoo culture, followed by more than one million people worldwide.
In recent years, Kozo has returned to his original love of painting and drawing, translating his tattoo compositions back into traditional mediums such as canvas and paper. His fine art demonstrates the same expressive clarity, precision, and minimalism that made him famous in tattooing, offering collectors one-of-a-kind works that balance hyper-refined technique with emotional resonance. His influences range from Rembrandt, Van Gogh, and Jacques-Louis David to Korean contemporary artists and global pop culture; he draws inspiration from travel, discipline, and the belief that simplicity can hold profound meaning.
Kozo’s rapid ascent in the fine-art world has been marked by major collaborations and institutional attention. His capsule collection with Maison Margiela debuted in December 2024, and critics have described his work as “marked by a quiet, deliberate turn toward the timeless” and capable of holding “opposing energies in a single frame – refined and raw, formal and expressive, ancient and utterly contemporary.”
