Hidden for decades, vintage master works by one of Abstract Expressionist’s original members,
and winner of the Grand Prix de Rome, Pietro Antonio Narducci, will finally make their long, overdue debut at
DTR Modern Galleries.
A true diamond in the rough, Narducci outlived his contemporaries, evolving his technique for over 60 years, and creating works far ahead of his time. Quickly drawn to the vibrancy of New York City life, his artistic career skyrocketed, with his first show at the young age of 21, alongside American masters, Thomas Benton and Joseph Stella. Narducci engrained himself as a pivotal member of the Abstract Expressionist revolution, a frequent of the famed Cedar Tavern in West Village, where he befriended Jackson Pollock, Willem de Kooning, Sam Francis and Franz Kline.
Sadly, a series of tragic events turned Narducci into a recluse, hiding his work from the public, even denying numerous tempting offers from illustrious dealers like Leo Castelli. Despite his un-willingness to show, curators could not resist his work, including it in the famous Abstract Expressionist Show of 1946 at the Guggenheim, which first introduced this iconic movement to the world. DTR Modern Galleries is pleased to let you re-discover the unseen masterworks by Pietro Antonio Narducci.
From Sept. 8th through Oct. 26th Narducci’s unseen masterwork will be exhibited at DTR Modern Galleries at
167 Newbury Street in Boston alongside contemporary artists following in the Abstract Expressionist lineage.
